Thoughts As I Read: Song of the Crimson Flower

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

AfterlightImage 9.JPG
  1. Lan. PLEASE become more interesting.

  2. Tam. I’m not going to like this character just by that name alone. It’s cursed.

  3. Bao. He already has my heart. I’m always falling for the underdog.

  4. Tam is sus. Is he gay and hiding it from his well-to-do family? Or in love with another woman? Or just a jerk? Oh he’s just a jerk.

  5. Oh dang. The whole family is in on it. And Bao. Come on, Bao! I was rooting for you!

  6. I am not liking this bloodpox. Why am I reading this kind of book right now? And they’re wearing masks!

  7. That is such an odd spell to cast.

  8. Hello, Commander Wei! This poor guy. His story arc in the last book really hurt.

  9. I forgot that Empress Jade married a little person.

  10. Dude, don’t tell me Wei is in love with ANOTHER unattainable woman. I’m starting to think he has a type. A toxic type.

  11. About time they start seeing each other for who they are and not what they built up in their heads.

  12. Commander Wei deserves love and Lan deserves forgiveness!

  13. Am I really melting over handholding? Yes, I am. These two. First I was annoyed over how much they built each other up in their heads, but now they see each other for real.

  14. Mistress Vy. I don’t trust her. Bao, you’re momma is a snake. She’s got something up her sleeve.

  15. I mean, she’s not wrong in her desire to save mankind, I get that.

  16. Ugh, children always ruin the moment.

  17. Lan’s tenacity is growing on me.

  18. Come on, Bao! Your mother is lying to you!!!!

19. There it is. The pretense is gone. Mistress Vy is a psycho.

20. Finally, a character that tells what he knows to the proper authorities instead of trying to solve the problem himself.

21. Yes!!! Lady Yen said no thank you I want someone else!

22. “I go where you go,” I will never not melt at these words no matter the iteration.

23. Cockblocked AGAIN.

24. Aaand they all blacked out. Convenient.

25. Well that escalated quickly. Cold hearted bitch.

26. Mistress Vy is Trump. She won’t admit defeat and wants a legacy no matter the cost.

27. Putting plants and drugs on barges. That’s actually a really good plan.

28. “I can tell from the way you talk that you were raised with maids and silk slippers. Yet you’re willing to crawl through the sewers to escape.” I would do worse than that to get to Bao.” Yes!!!

And that’s on character growth.

29. Women risking it all for their loves is my jam.

30. “All she cared about was that she found a home for her heart at last, and she would never let go.”

31. “And I think I will always miss you, but maybe that’s better than having you.” And that’s on rejecting toxic relationships.

32. Stan Lord Nguyen.

33. She asked him to marry her!!!!

Final Thoughts: I loved it. Such a sweet story of learning what true love really means and focusing on what is important.
